Guide / On the schematic

Annotations

Pin notes, comments and photos to nets, regions and parts, so the team's knowledge lives on the drawing.

Highlight a net or part from its text

  1. With Select on, drag across a net name, pin or part number on the schematic to select its text.
  2. In the menu that appears, choose Net annotation or Part annotation.
  3. Give it a title and a comment in the annotation panel, then click Save Annotation.
Tips
  • The same menu has Ask AI, Look up datasheet and Add to trace (see their guides).
  • To copy the highlighted text, press Ctrl + C (⌘ + C on Mac) or click Copy at the top of the menu.

Draw a box around a net, region or part

  1. Click Annotate in the toolbar and choose Net, Region or Part (under Draw a box).
  2. Drag a box on the schematic around what you want to annotate.
  3. The annotation opens in the panel: add a title and comment, then Save Annotation.
  4. Choose the same tool again in the Annotate menu (or Select) to stop.
Tips
  • On a scanned schematic, Cirkit's AI reads the label inside your box and fills in the title.
  • Region boxes are good for whole circuit blocks ("Buck controller", "Input protection").

Edit and save

  1. Click an annotation on the schematic, or in the list, to open it in the panel.
  2. Change its title or comment: Save Annotation lights up when there's something to save.
  3. Click it: it turns into ✓ Saved until you change something again.
  4. To delete an annotation, click the × on its card in the list.

Find annotations

  1. The annotation panel's tabs filter the list: All, Nets, Regions, Parts, Measure and Eqs.
  2. Type in the search box to search titles, comments and parts across the schematic; matches are highlighted.
  3. Click a result to jump to it on the schematic.
  4. Drag the handle above the details to give them more or less room.

Add photos and screenshots

  1. Open an annotation. Under Images, click + Images (or drop files, or paste a screenshot).
  2. Group them with + Folder (one level of folders), and drag images between folders.
  3. Click an image to view it large; add a comment to each image.
  4. Use the expand button to see a folder in a large window.
Tip
  • JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF up to 20 MB; photos are resized to 4000 px, and HEIC photos are converted where the browser can open them.
