Guide / On the schematic

Equations

Write equations in real math notation that pull values straight from your parts, and see results live on the schematic.

Create an equation

  1. Click Annotate and choose Eq Out.
  2. Click where the result belongs on the schematic (e.g. the output of a divider) and name it, e.g. V_out. This creates the equation.
  3. The equation opens in the Eqs tab: write it in the math box, e.g. 0.8·(1 + R1/R2).
  4. The result appears on the schematic at the output, and updates as you edit.
Tips
  • Designators like R1 or C18 use their value from the BOM (10k, 4.7µ…). Change the BOM and the result follows.
  • Engineering units and prefixes are understood: 4.7k, 2.2µ, 1M, 3.3V, 120mA.

Add inputs from the schematic

  1. With the equation active, click Annotate and choose Eq In.
  2. Click each input on the schematic and name it (e.g. V_in). Give it a value, or use a measurement.
  3. Press Esc when you've placed them all.
  4. Or use + Insert input in the equation card to insert an input you've already placed.

Chain equations

  1. An equation's output can be another equation's input: when placing an input, click an existing output.
  2. Change a value upstream and every result downstream updates.

Have it explained

  1. In the calculator, open a line's menu and choose Explain steps: the AI shows the working, step by step (see Calculator).
