Guide / Signals and changes

Trace maps

Record the path a signal takes, step by step, across pages and boards, then play it back.

Start a trace

  1. Click Traces in the toolbar, then + New trace. Name it, e.g. "PWM_EN: MCU → gate driver", and click Create.
  2. Pick the origin: select the signal's text on the schematic and choose Add to trace, or click Draw a box and box it.

Add steps

  1. Follow the signal: select the next point's text and choose Add to trace, or draw a box. It goes after the selected step.
  2. Change pages or schematics freely: a trace can cross to another board.
  3. Add a label and comment to each step (e.g. "Drops about 0.5 V").
  4. To branch, click an earlier step, then add the next one: the trace splits there.
Tip
  • Suggestions under the selected step offer places the same net name appears elsewhere: click + Add to use one.

Play it back

  1. Open a trace and click ▶ Play steps.
  2. Use Next › and ‹ Prev (or → and ←): the schematic jumps to each step, with only that step outlined.
  3. Click Map to see the whole path as a diagram, board by board.
Tip
  • Great for walking a new teammate through the design, or explaining a fault path in a review.

Find traces on the schematic

Text that's a step of a trace has a small pink square at its top-left corner (steps drawn as boxes don't).

  1. Click the pink square to open that trace in the Traces panel, with the step selected. If the text is in several traces, pick one from the list.
  2. Or select the text: the menu shows In trace: name for each trace it's in.
Tip
  • The squares hide with the annotations (the eye button) and while a trace plays.
